When a loved one has a memory loss illness, enjoying the times we have together can become challenging. This workshop will help caregivers develop strategies that draw on past and present interests, and enhance opportunities for meaningful exchanges while adjusting to different stages of the disease.

A Deeper Perspective of Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias: Practical Tools with Spiritual Insights

Megan will give a short talk about her journey working with individuals with memory loss. Soul-searching, life-testing situations have fall-out blessings. Her book explores understanding some of the deeper lessons we are exposed to through caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. A question and answer session follows her talk.

We’ll explore current research and understanding about memory loss diseases and provide information regarding progress around therapeutic approaches. Functional wellness and optimal brain health will be discussed.

Megan Carnarius

Memory Care Consulting

Megan has over 22 years in direct management of memory support settings in skilled and assisted living, with 33 years in geriatric nursing. She is a registered nurse, a licensed nursing home administrator and licensed massage therapist. Megan served on the Alzheimer’s Association education committee, designed award-winning memory care communities, and acted as an adjunct faculty member at Naropa University. In 2015, she published A Deeper Perspective on Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias: Practical Tools with Spiritual Insights (Findhorn Press).

Megan consults with Rosemark at Mayfair Park on building design, programming, care management and caregiving.

Macky Bennett

Macky is an advocate for memory impaired seniors and caregivers and board member of two non-profits. She was formerly the center director for Total Longterm Care, now InnovAge/PACE. Macky pioneered the development of adult day care services for the City of Boulder and facilitated family support groups for the Alzheimer’s Association.
