Active Minds Educational Series

Thurs., October 12, 10 am

Argentina can fairly be described as up and coming. Once one of the wealthiest countries in the world, Argentina suffered economic disruption and political instability after the Great Depression that lasted into the early 21st century. The economy is now growing and the country is on a path toward international integration under the leadership of President Mauricio Macri. Join Active Minds as we review Argentina’s history, culture, current status and future prospects.

Putin’s Russia

Thurs., Oct. 26, 9:30 am

Having influenced the country far beyond the term of his first official presidency and now having returned to the role and consolidated his power, Vladimir Putin’s leadership of Russia suggests a return to an authoritarianism that, for some, feels similar to the days of Soviet control and the Czars of old. Join Active Minds as we examine the story of Russia under the influence of Vladimir Putin.

Saudi Arabia

Thurs., Nov. 9, 10 am

Although Saudi Arabia is about a quarter of the size of the continental United States, it holds 20% of the world’s proven oil reserves. This resource has colored its relationships with other global powers and shaped its society. Join Active Minds and Rosemark at Mayfair Park as we explore Saudi history, the recent transition in generational power of the Saudi Royal family, and the complicated role played by Wahhabi Islam and Sunni Islam in the country and the region.
